1. Information We Collect
1.1 Information You Provide
When you use Treasured Voices, you may provide us with:
- Profile Information: Your name and role (Curator or Storyteller)
- Storyteller Information: Names and labels for family members you invite as storytellers
- Story Answers: Text responses and voice recordings you provide when answering the app's story prompts (365 guided questions)
- Pairing Codes: Short codes used to connect Curators and Storytellers across devices (also stored temporarily in the cloud so a code can be validated and claimed)
- Settings: Your theme preferences, hub layout choices, language preference (English, Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, or German), and other app settings
1.2 Information Collected Automatically
When you use the app, we automatically collect:
- Device Information: A unique device identifier (using iOS identifierForVendor) to enable synchronisation between paired devices
- Usage Data: Information about how you interact with the app (such as streak data and question progress) to improve functionality
- Push Notification Token: A token to deliver notifications about story prompts and encouragement messages (if you grant permission)
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide and maintain the app's core functionality, including guided story prompts and Memory Lane
- Enable synchronisation between Curator and Storyteller devices (when paired)
- Store your story answers and voice recordings
- Track your story progress, streaks, and milestones
- Send prompt reminders and Curator-to-Storyteller encouragement messages for paired storytellers using their own device (if you enable notifications)
- Improve the app's performance and user experience
- Respond to your support requests
3. Data Storage and Synchronisation
3.1 Local Storage
Your data is stored locally on your device. This includes your profile, story answers, voice recordings, progress data, and settings. The app is designed to work fully offline.
3.2 Cloud Storage
When a Storyteller pairs with a Curator using a pairing code, we use Google Firebase services to synchronise data between devices:
- Firebase Firestore: Stores and synchronises story answers (including metadata such as text and references to audio files), progress data, encouragement messages, and short-lived pairing-code documents so invites can be discovered and claimed
- Firebase Cloud Storage: When devices are paired, voice answers recorded as audio files may be uploaded and downloaded so the Curator can play them on another device
- Firebase Cloud Messaging: Sends push notifications for reminders and encouragement
Important: Two-device sync is what pairing is for: when a Storyteller joins on their own iPhone, Firestore and Cloud Storage keep answers and audio aligned with the Curator. You can still capture someone's entire story on the Curator's iPhone alone (no second device)—in that case there is no other phone to sync with, but the Curator app may still use the same Firebase services for your family workspace (for example to store answers, voice files, or encouragement) depending on how you use the app.
3.3 Voice Recordings
Voice recordings are always created and played from local storage on the device. When storytellers use their own paired device, audio files may be stored in Firebase Cloud Storage (in addition to Firestore metadata) so answers can sync securely to the Curator's app.
4. Data Security
We take data security seriously:
- All data transmitted between devices is encrypted using HTTPS
- Firebase services use industry-standard security measures
- Data is stored securely in Firebase with access restricted to paired devices only
- Your device identifier is used solely for synchronisation and is not linked to your personal identity
However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security.
5. Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services:
- Google Firebase: For cloud database (Firestore), file storage for voice answers when syncing (Cloud Storage), synchronisation, and push notifications (Cloud Messaging). Firebase's privacy practices are governed by Google's Privacy Policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy
These services have their own privacy policies, and we encourage you to review them.
6. Your Rights and Choices

You have the right to:
- Access all data stored in the app through the app's interface
- Edit or delete any story answers you've provided
- Review your Memory Lane at any time
- Reset the app and all stored data through Settings
6.2 Privacy Settings
You can control your experience:

6.3 Deletion
You can delete your data at any time by:
- Deleting individual story answers within the app
